|
|
Was told I have to have the Sun Java Runtime on my WinXP machine to display
certain web pages. Where is the official download for this? I go to
sun.com but see so many different Java kits to download it is not clear what
is the proper download.

Probably the easiest is to go to <http://java.com/>. Click the orange |
button "Java Software Download" on the right of the page (in the section
with the title "GET THE LATEST IN JAVA TECHNOLOGY"). This will only get
you the JRE (see below).
Another possibility is <http://java.sun.com/j2se/1.5.0/download.jsp>.
Choose the JRE 5.0 Update 1 (third item) if you only want to display
Java applets and run Java programs. [JRE = Java _Runtime_ Environment]
If you also want to develop Java applets/programs, choose JDK 5.0 Update
1 (second item). It includes the JRE, but also development tools like
the Java compiler. [JDK = Java _Development_ Kit].
