This should be a FAQ of all FAQs.... use a search engine. I was looking
for this information last year and I just went to google and searched for
"salary survey". I found a few dozen good sites. Some were local and
others more generic. A few had numbers for the general case and factor
depending on where you lived, e.g. Java Programmer with skills X, Y and Q
gets $45,000/yr. If you living in San Francisco multiply by 1.13, if you
living in San Mateo/Foster City multiply by 0.85. These numbers are
completely fictional and are used to just demonstrate the concept.
One that I liked a lot was from Robert Half Technologies. They publish a
guide for people hiring programmers and IT staff. This gives you an idea
of what the employers are being told they should spend to get a good
programmer.
