|
|
Hi everyone,
I have been using netbeans 5.0 for sometime with success. I noticed
that I wasn't getting context-driven java documention when editing
code, so I downloaded java documentation from the Sun website and added
a link to the directory containing all of that documentation. The
Netbeans platform manager seemed to accept that link. However, if I
type, for example, System. into a source program, while netbeans shows
me all methods and fields associated with System, no javadoc is
available.
Since I made this change, whenever I launch netbeans (on mac os x
10.4.6) I get a "null pointer exception", after which netbeans appears
to start up normally.
But it must not be normal, because I can't build any projects.Whenever
I try, for any project, I get the message "Project X has a broken
platform reference." I have no idea how to fix this broken reference
because all settings in the java platform manager, the netbeans
platform manager and the library manager look reasonable to me.
I think my best bet is to trash my copy of netbeans and reinstall. But
when I do this, all the same behavior occurs.
Any ideas?
all the best,

I take it you unzipped the file ? Because if you're not using the
documentation for anything else it might be better with regards to free
diskspace to simply specify the .zip file as a whole.
And where did you add this link ?

And I take it you're sure to have downloaded the right javadoc for your jdk and
you also assigned the javadoc to the right jdk ?
What happens if you use the Javadoc index search (shift-f1 being the default
key combo) ? If you try to enter something like "java.lang.String" and click
find, does it show any results?
