Yes but Fedora *does not* require subscription for updates. There
are about fourty mirrors to choose from for Fedora updates, all are
100x faster than Red Hat's "demo" access. Red Hat has given
Fedora to community development although they participate by
contribution to test bleeding edge stuff. The end result is still a
free solid distro.
Why not what?

Well, it sounds kind of stupid when you rant about RedHat and then compare
them to fine, free distros like Fedora...

I never made any negative comment as to the distro's quality. Red Hat makes
good distros. Fedora follows that lineage. I dislike and disapprove of the
new business model the company has chosen.
On the other hand, there is always Whitebox, which is Red Hat ES 3
recompiled without the logos.
If you're going to rag on everything derived from Red Hat, then you'd be
discounting good distros like Mandrake, Yellow Dog, etc.
